Tumbling is the skill, practice, or sport of executing acrobatic feats (such as somersaults, cartwheels, and handsprings) without the use of gymnastic apparatus or equipment.
Merrilee Studios offers Tumbling classes for Preschoolers through High School students. Our classes are taught on a completely individualized basis with each student moving at his or her own pace. In our school aged classes, it is not uncommon for some students to be working on cartwheels while other students are working on back handsprings. Our students learn a variety of front and back rolls, a variety of cartwheels, limbering skills, running skills and a variety of back handsprings and aerials.
The school aged (1st grade and older) students will learn a choreographed Tumbling routine and perform in the recital. Preschool and kindergarten tumbling classes do not perform in the dance recital. To acknowledge the skills that these younger children have learned, they will receive certificates of participation and their names are listed in the recital program.
Merrilee Studios also offers a High Level Tumbling class. To qualify for the High Level class you must be working on a back handspring and be approved by Coach David.
